What isolates us

You can expand your perspective to recognize and respond compassionately to other's troubles -- image of walker isolated in dark tunnel

In our last post, we suggested you pause and be curious. Why is that such an important idea?

Sometimes we get so submerged in our own life, our own perspective, that we forget to notice that everyone we pass is on a journey and has a whole life history. Each person is having an experience today that we cannot even imagine.

In a way, we isolate ourselves just as Covid isolated us. We get sedated, and our curiosity is numbed, especially when we are experiencing difficulties.

Everybody is going through something. Not having to know what they’re going through, it is important to be open and compassionate. We forget that we’re all in this together.

Larry came to work one day and went into his manager’s office. “My wife is really sick and my son is so little I’m worried about them both. But I just can’t be off work today. I have so much to do.

The boss looked Larry in the eye and said, “Go home. I know what’s most important, and it is your wife and son. We will take care of things here.” Grateful and relieved, Larry went home.

Are you that generous to the people you lead?

What would your life be like if you looked with genuine caring at each person?
What would their life be like when you cared?

There is one more part to Larry’s story that you should know. Larry was a devoted employee for many years after that event.

With caring,
