Years ago, I spent as much time as I could with Uncle Joe, who never seemed to rush or worry. His days were spent tending to herbs and flowers with a peace that felt… contagious.
I loved being with him and particularly enjoyed his beautiful African violet blooms.
One morning, I asked him, “What’s your secret to happiness?”
He smiled and said, “I don’t chase it. I cultivate it. A little sun, a little water, a lot of attention.”
At the time, I thought he was just talking about his gorgeous flowers.
As I grew older and life grew louder, I came to understand that our well-being grows in the quiet moments we tend to ourselves. When we are at ease in the present, we can listen deeply, attend to what is needed, rest without guilt, and create space for happiness.
Happiness isn’t a destination. It’s a garden we care for daily.
What are the simple habits, rituals, or pauses that help you cultivate your well-being?
