We are made to connect

Science shows our heart cells synchronize, even at a distance

Have you ever thought about a person you haven’t talked to in ages and they call or you run into them unexpectedly? It’s a common experience, and an indication of the powerful reality of connectedness.

These moments catch us off guard, seem magical, and allow our awareness to expand. We feel the oneness and interconnectedness between us.

If we stretch open that magical window even wider, we might glimpse how one pulsation of energy beats through us all.

Author Pete Nelson, in his book, I Thought You Were Dead, writes, Individual heart cells beat at their own rate when separated from one another, a phenomenon easily observed beneath a microscope. It has long been known that when they are pushed together, they will synchronize their pulses. Recent studies have shown, however, that heart cells begin to synchronize slightly before they touch.

Some scientists speculate that this method of communication may be able to cross great distances and may explain how social animals bond, or how pets seem to sense when their masters are coming home, or even how people fall in love, one heart calling to another.

We experience Nelson’s affinity beyond our friendships when somewhere in the world a tsunami wreaks havoc or a war breaks out. It points to the realization that as humans we have the ability and desire to connect with the world around us. Our hearts literally move toward each other.

Let’s make the decision to hold onto this reality of oneness, of interconnection. Qigong Master Mingtong Gu encourages us this way,

When the energy of your heart is expanding,
you have a natural feeling of joy, happiness and peace.

From our hearts to yours,
