See options

Once you notice you have options, you're free to play with the possibilities.

Arturo is an executive at a very large company. He works in two different departments, and has a vision of how they could work together to make something amazing happen. But the departments are siloed, always in competition with each other. Getting them to talk to each other is futile. Arturo was stuck. He brought his frustrations to a coaching session.

“What are your options?” his coach asked.

There was a long pause. Then Arturo smiled, visibly relaxed, and said, “Options. I’d forgotten I have options.”

Then, enjoying this possibility, he started listing options:

  • I could be more creative in how I present my vision.

  • I could enlist others to support me.

  • I could hire professionals to help me.

  • I could give it my all, holding back nothing.

  • I could commit until the end of the year, and if there is no progress, leave.

  • I could say “no” more often when I’m asked to take on projects that divert me from my passion.

  • I could invite the teams to have donuts and coffee together.

Once we realize we have options, we are free.

We can play. We connect. We make better decisions.

We are always choosing

who to be

and what to do.
